Mariachi Plaza

The Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights is gentrifying quickly. At the very heart of the area is Mariachi Plaza, a place for traditional musicians of this Mexican genre to socialize, wait for clients, and practice. Here, a man sits near a metro station and sings. Someone tunes a violin. Skateboarders pass, a vendor sells corn. Despite the noise, a Mariachi band in full attire serenades passers-by. An uncompromisingly minimalist portrait of the place, as it faces the possibility of permanent change.
